A resolution changing the official date for the Golden Cross Sunday offering to the second Sunday in September passed by a majority vote at the 53rd session of the Tennessee Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church held September 19. In past years, the offering was taken on the second Sunday in May.

"While churches can observe Golden Cross Sunday any time, Golden Cross Foundation board members felt the May offering competed with other important spring milestones in the Church: Mother's Day, graduate recognition, Native American Ministries Sunday, and Peace with Justice Sunday," said Golden Cross Foundation Executive Director Kent McNish.

This year, Golden Cross Sunday was intentionally postponed until the second Sunday in September—traditionally observed as Grandparents Day—due to COVID-19 and church closings. Next year's Golden Cross Sunday will be September 12.

"Whenever your church chooses to observe Golden Cross Sunday, we thank you. We also give thanks for your steadfast support in the past," said McNish.
