While caregiving can be very rewarding, many caregivers also experience a significant amount of stress, and struggle to find meaning in their role as a caregiver.
Finding Sanctuary in the Midst of Alzheimer’s: A Spiritual Guide for Families Facing Dementia, is a 4-week Bible study by Dr. Elizabeth Shulman that addresses common challenges for dementia caregivers using both scripture and personal narratives gathered while Shulman was doing doctoral research. An additional fifth week is included for churches looking to design a dementia ministry specific to that congregation, building on the skills and gifts discovered during the course of the study.
About the author: Dr. Elizabeth Shulman has over 30 years of experience both as a United Methodist pastor and as a hospice chaplain. She has written for Guideposts’ Strength and Grace and enjoys writing music in her free time. Shulman shares seven daughters with her husband Leo and lives near Cleveland, Ohio.
