First UMC Woodbury Celebrates Community Impact Following Building Renovations

Thanks in part to grant funding from the ENCORE Ministry Foundation, First United Methodist Church of Woodbury, Tennessee, recently installed a new roof. This not only resolved longstanding issues but opened doors to exciting opportunities for ministry and fellowship such as upgrading an audiovisual system, ensuring that older guests can more easily read lyrics during worship services.

The roof installation itself became a unique moment of fellowship for older members of the congregation, who gathered to watch the dramatic process — including the sight of a giant crane lifting the church steeple. These moments fostered connection and community among attendees.

Additionally, the renovated space has enabled the church to expand its food distribution ministry, welcoming 35-50% more guests in recent events. The church has also become the new site for quarterly commodities distributions, previously held at the local senior center.

These efforts allow First UMC Woodbury to meet the growing needs of the community with joy and compassion.

Rev. Dr. David Lilley, pastor of First UMC Woodbury, expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed to this project. “None of these blessings would be possible without a building in good order. ENCORE Ministry Foundation’s support has truly made a difference in the lives of our congregation and neighbors.

“First UMC Woodbury remains committed to serving the older adults of Cannon County and the broader community. We invite everyone to join us in celebrating these milestones and continuing to support our mission of love and service.”

Grant funding from ENCORE Ministry Foundation helped First UMC Woodbury install a new roof thus enabling the church to offer an expanded food distribution ministry and other ministry and followship opportunities.
